Wheatland Kings to Retire #4 in Honour of Ryan Geasdahl

Strathmore, AB – October 1, 2025 – The Wheatland Kings are proud to announce the retirement of jersey #4 in honor of former captain Ryan Geasdahl, who passed away earlier this year. Ryan’s number will be raised to the rafters of the Strathmore Family Centre in a special on-ice ceremony during the Kings’ November 1st home game against the High River Flyers.

Ryan Geasdahl’s impact on the Wheatland Kings franchise extends far beyond his four seasons and 120 games played. A leader on and off the ice, Ryan wore the “C” with pride and embodied the heart, commitment, and integrity of what it means to be a King. His dedication to the team, his teammates, and the community left a lasting impression that continues to inspire those who wear the Kings’ crest today.

“From what I hear Ryan wasn’t just a great player — he was a cornerstone of our organization,” said Cody Holdaway, Kings GM. “His leadership, character, and the example he set will never be forgotten. Retiring his number ensures that his legacy lives on in the history of our team.”

Earlier this season, the Kings transitioned player Keaton Kish away from wearing the #4 jersey in preparation for this moment. Moving forward, no Wheatland Kings player will wear #4, as the number is reserved to honor Ryan’s memory and his permanent place in franchise history.

The retirement ceremony for #4 Ryan Geasdahl will take place prior to puck drop on Saturday, November 1st at the Strathmore Family Centre. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and join the organization, Ryan’s family, and his former teammates as the Kings pay tribute to one of the most influential players in franchise history.
