The Agra Risk Wheatland Kings put together one of their strongest weekends of the season, collecting back-to-back wins and reclaiming their spot at the top of the HJHL South Division.
Friday night on the road, the Kings dominated the High River Flyers with a convincing 4–1 victory. Trey Kam opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, assisted by Brandon Corbeil and Adam Moore. Assistant Captain Luke Nottveit doubled the lead midway through the first, with help from rookie standout Emery Medicine Shield and Chase Berg. Berg then found the back of the net himself seven minutes later, assisted by Charlie Goll and Nottveit, capping off a commanding 3–1 lead after the opening frame.
The second period went scoreless, and with High River pressing late, rookie forward Koen Wainwright sealed the win with an empty-netter in the final 15 seconds to close out a complete team performance.
Saturday night, the Kings returned home to the Fortress for their annual Veterans Night — a special evening honouring those who have served, with Rene Phillips taking to the ice for the ceremonial puck drop.
The Kings wasted no time getting started. Wainwright stayed hot, scoring just two and a half minutes into the game for his second goal of the weekend. The Generals responded moments later, but that would be the only puck to beat goaltender Connor White, who stood tall the rest of the night. Cody Mountjoy restored the lead late in the second period, and Nottveit struck again early in the third, powering the Kings to another dominant 3–1 win.
After this weekend, the stars are aligning for the Kings — now sitting atop the South Division standings as the All-Star selection date of November 23rd looms. The boys will look to keep their momentum rolling as they travel to Coaldale on Friday for a crucial first-place showdown with the Copperheads.
