The Agra Risk Wheatland Kings hit the ice for another busy weekend, facing some early adversity but showing strong resilience to close things out with a statement win.
Friday night in Okotoks, the Kings fell 4–1 to the Bisons — their first loss to Okotoks this season. Strathmore struggled to find momentum early, and despite a solid effort between the pipes, couldn’t quite mount the comeback. Goaltender Connor White stopped 28 of 31 shots before leaving the game with an injury after a collision in the crease. Rookie netminder Evan McNair stepped in and was perfect in relief, stopping all eight shots he faced.
Charlie Goll provided the lone goal for Strathmore, breaking through former Kings goaltender Derrick Ford, who was recently released from the Merritt Centennials of the KIJHL and suited up for the Bisons.
The Kings wasted no time bouncing back. On Saturday, they rolled into Medicine Hat for a rematch against their playoff rivals — and this time, they delivered a 6–3 win to even the weekend. McNair turned aside 42 of 45 shots to earn his second career victory, while Captain Cole Tweit had another multi-point night and Goll capped off a strong weekend with a pair of goals.
With White sidelined, the Kings called up U18 AA Wheatland Warriors goaltender Ty Spiller to serve as backup — marking his first official appearance with the Junior B squad.
After the long road trip home from Medicine Hat, the team was back up early Sunday morning — not for another game, but to give back. The Kings spent the morning at the Strathmore Ag Grounds helping set up for the annual Celebration of Lights, continuing their off-ice tradition of community support.
Next up, the Kings look ahead to a familiar weekend slate: a home rematch against the Okotoks Bisons inside The Fortress, followed by another road trip to Medicine Hat for the rematch.
