An Agra Risk Wheatland Kings player is receiving recognition.
On Thursday (Oct. 9), Luke Nottveit, the team’s assistant captain and center, won the title of King of the Week. He has been playing for the Kings for two years and wears the No. 15 jersey.
Nottveit reflected on the fact that relationships and dynamics within the team are more important than being the best team in the season.
“The points are a nice kind of cherry on top. You can never complain about that,” he said. “But for me, the biggest thing would be being a leader for the young guys. For me, that’s the most exciting thing about this season so far.”
Nottveit said that many of the rookie players have displayed potential and sport good attitudes.
Throughout the weekend games, Nottveit has accomplished two hat tricks, a term used when a hockey player scores three goals in a row during a game. He also tops the scoreboard when it comes to scoring in the league.
“I think I’ve been given a lot of opportunity, and I just want to keep producing with the opportunity I’ve been given and help us win some games,” Nottveit said, grateful for the recognition.
On Saturday, (Oct. 11), the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings will be on the ice once again, playing against the Sylvan Lake Wranglers. Nottviet added that the Sylvan Lake Wranglers are the defending champions and that the upcoming game will hold a lot of weight.
“I think we’re going to be two of the contending teams this year, and I think an early win in the season on them would help build confidence and kind of solidify our spot as one of the top contending teams.”
However, Nottveit is bringing one strong piece of advice into the game with him: “The two things you can always control are your work ethic and your attitude.”
The local hockey game kicks off in the Strathmore Family Centre Arena at 7:45 p.m.
