Josh Alberda, #12 with the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings, has been crowned King of the Week.
Alberda has been playing with the Kings for several years as a forward and had recently taken a defensive position over a three-game weekend.
“The season has been going pretty well for a lot of us,” said Alberda. “We’re sitting at the top of the league, so it’s not bad.”
Since joining the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL), Alberda has noticed changes not just to the Kings but the league as a whole.
“This year feels a little bit different, all the guys seem to be bonding pretty good, and it’s just more fast-paced than my first couple of years here,” added Alberda.
Going from an offensive mind to a defensive mind, Alberda said it brought a completely different experience for him on the ice.
“There are a couple of other guys that we can throw back there, and it’s a really important thing to have both mindsets going at the same time.”
The Kings made it farther into the playoffs than ever before in the 2024-25 season, and Alberda knows that they can make it farther.
“If we keep going the way we’re going, I don’t see an issue with us going far this year, too.”
